Objectives of GSIPER, a two decade old Institute

Girindra Sekhar Institute of Psychological Education & Research (GSIPER), based in Kolkata, was formed by renowned Dr.(Prof.) Dhirendra Nath Nandi, eminent psychiatrist, psychologist and psycho-analyst in 2003-2004 with a group of members and a handful of socially committed people.

It was registered under Society Registration Act, 1961 to commemorate the ideology of great psychoanalyst and physician Dr. Girindra Sekhar Bose who was the father of psychoanalysis in India and opener of first OPD on psychiatry in India at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, the then Carmichael Medical School.

GSIPER is totally voluntary, non-profit making charitable organisation formed with the principal purpose of helping the poor and down-trodden people. GSIPER is very popular not only in Kolkata but all over West Bengal and even beyond this state. Founded by famous and well-known Prof. (Dr.) Dhirendranath Nandi, a student of Prof Girindra Sekhar Bose, GSIPER is now a quality brand name to individuals representing different aspects of society. Since its inception, GSIPER has been focussing to provide compassionate, accessible, high quality, cost effective healthcare to all.

Mainly focussing on psychiatry and psychological counselling, GSIPER is also at the same time running a low cost clinic for the under-privileged. This institute also provides psychological counselling as well as psychometric testing in a very nominal cost.

GSIPER has a group of experienced and learned psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors who have vast knowledge as well as experience in their respective fields. GSIPER has a wing- ‘Education’ where a university affiliated course namely, Advanced Diploma in Psychological Counselling (formerly known as Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Counselling) affiliated to Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) is run. GSIPER also runs different short courses on various pertinent psychological issues and problems. GSIPER also arranges and takes part in various Mental Health Awareness Programs in different parts of West Bengal in different modes and mediums to wipe out inappropriate and unjustified taboos from individuals regarding mental health, psychiatry or psychology. GSIPER also extends their space in publication. The one of the earliest Bengali quarterly scientific magazine named ‘Moner Katha’ was first published in 2004. For last two decades, the said magazine has gained popularity among the common people. Now the frequency of the publication of the magazine is yearly. This magazine covers different pertinent psychological disorders and mental health related problems and their solutions.

GSIPER believes in MANAGEMENT OF DIFFERENT MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS WITHOUT HAVING ANY TABOO. Every person associated with GSIPER provides service with utmost empathy and care.

To sum up, these days GSIPER is working in different areas to help the disadvantaged and distressed people in the society. The areas include various mental health awareness programs, treatment of mental patients through counselling, treatment of psychological disorders by medicine and education in psychological counselling with a very nominal cost.
